Kala was born and raised on a small farm in Annapolis, Indiana, along with her twin sister, an older brother, and an older sister. As children, her and her siblings were surrounded by horses, pigs, goats, and natural wildlife. They had many pets growing up, such as cats, dogs, hamsters, and Guinea pigs. Today, Kala has a Red Heeler/Border Collie mix named Roscoe, a Boston Terrier/Pug mix named Fred, and two Pygmy goats named Winston and Billy. She has no doubts that her furry family will continue to grow!
In high school, Kala continued to show great interest in the health and well-being of animals, so she found work at both a goat farm and an Angus farm. Her love for tending to animals naturally led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She chose to continue her education at the Vet Tech Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was there that Kala would become a successful student, making the Dean’s list each term, and later graduating with her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Science in May 2015. In November 2015 she passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Kala actually became part of the Heritage family months before her official start date. She chose Heritage Animal Hospital for her externship in March 2015 for the opportunity to learn and gain experience in the field. We all loved her dedication and drive from the very beginning! She truly believes that the best part of what she does comes from the feeling of satisfaction she gets when she knows that she has lent a helping hand to every patient that comes through our doors.
Besides spending time at the hospital caring for all of her patients, Kala enjoys spending time outdoors. She loves free range shooting, boating, and fishing. She and her father share a love of working on old cars and fixing them up. She loves to spend time in the kitchen where she can bake all the goodies her coworkers can eat! She also loves to spend extra time with her friends, family, and pets.
Kala Fun Fact: Kala’s favorite animal related movie is Cats vs. Dogs
